The Melaleuca baseball field in Idaho Falls is a place where many batters are used to striking out. But how about striking a pose? That's exactly what took place today as many girls came to the park for their chance in becoming America's Next Top Model. But why Idaho Falls?
Briana Boland, Trying Out "Hidden talent probably. You know, it's everywhere. You just have to look for it. People don't even think Idaho exists, so it's like,so let's go there."
Melissa Watson, Trying Out: "There's so much untouched talent here. There's lots of girl in like, big cities, you know, they're pretty and their rich and they go out and become models. But here, it's like we're poor, we don't know where to start so they come here."
The company that airs the show allows anyone of their smaller affiliates to hold auditions. Idaho Falls is one of about 150 locations giving young girls the chance to do their turn on the cat walk and a chance in landing a spot on the tv show.
Any girl ages 18 to 27 has the chance to try out as long as she meets the five foot, seven inches height requirement. Three judges ask the girls a range of questions and watch what they can do on a mock runway. One of the judges, a former beauty queen, knows exactly what the girls are going through but says no matter the outcome, they'll learn from it.
Tracy Bixby, Judge: "Each experience that makes you feel nervous or shy or anxious and you push through that it does build an internal stamina for these girls that will in fact make them better women as they go into their future." After a long day of tryouts Melissa Watson beat out 24 other girls. Melissa currently works for us here at channel 3. She'll will be off to Hollywood in August, to compete for season 12 of "America's Next Top Model"
