A former BYU-Idaho student who allegedly stole several items from different businesses pleaded not guilty in a Madison County courtroom Monday.

20-year-old Tavia Womack of Arizona is accused of burglarizing over ten businesses in May.

She was caught after going into a Rexburg music store and switching an old guitar for a new instrument.

The next day Womack tried to buy a guitar case at the Idaho Falls Chesbro music story.

Workers called police and she was taken into custody. Officers then found over 250 stolen items at Womack's apartment.

Idaho law allows state agencies to divert some state income tax refunds to pay legal obligations like court fees, child support, and sheriff's garnishments. Taxpayers whose refunds have been diverted have no legal recourse. What do you think of the law?

  • Times are tight. If the state needs the money, this approach is better than budget cuts, tax hikes, etc.
  • I'm entitled to the refund, and the state can just take it? Unfair and ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
