Arrest Made in Drug Store Robbery
By Anthony Congi
Thursday a masked man in a blue bandanna walked into the Idaho Falls Pharmacy Center with a guy and demanded several different types of drugs. He then sped off on his motorcycle.
Last night the Idaho Falls Police Department and Bonneville County Sheriff's Office made an arrest on Monticello Drive, just four blocks away from the pharmacy. Idaho Falls SWAT entered the house and arrested 22 year old Hanni Mohammed Elabed at his home. Police are still investigating and are not giving specifics on what the found in the house. Lt. Joe Cawley, Idaho Falls Police: "I don't want to discuss exactly what we have right now because it's still an ongoing investigation but we definitely had enough to charge Mr. Elabed with robbery." Police did say they found several bottles of hydrocodone, oxycotin and methodone. neighbors say the Elabed house was fairly quiet. Often times there were several people in and out and there were many motorcycles parked outside but they were never noisy. One neighbor says it was common for police to visit the Elabed house, though police did not confirm that. Zahe Elabed, the older brother of the suspect, did not want to go on camera but did say, "This was a shock to my family. We apologize to anyone who has been a victim. We'll just have to wait and let the system do justice. My barter is not a bad kid, he has just been caught up in the wrong crowd. If he did it, he's in for some real changes in his life." He went on to say, "We're Muslim, but this is not what my family is about or what we practice." Elabed was arraigned this afternoon and his pretrial is set for July 16th. |
