Taggers Hit 23 New Spots Overnight
By Rick Montañez
An Eastern Idaho mother says she might have seen the people who tagged up her fence and may be responsible for 22 other cases of vandalism in Ammon.
The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office says its one of the worst cases they've ever seen. You name it they tagged it, we're talking mail boxes, fences, and even some cars. The taggers struck on Tie Breaker, Chasewood, Devonwood, John Adams Parkway, and Match Point just to name a few. Kari McBride is getting ready to clean up the mess. "It looks like this just isn't gonna work." "I'll have to get something else." She's just one of 23 new cases of graffiti left behind by vandals, who painted the same thing on fences, mailboxes and even this stop sign. "Its kinda frustrating, how people really get their kicks out of things like that." Residents here say, they don't like it. "it's a good neighborhood." "It doesn't need to be like that." The Sheriff's Office meanwhile is working with Idaho Falls to bring down the graffiti numbers. "Ours is in the city, the city comes out into the county, so we've been working together with them." Metcalf also tells me these taggers often sign their street names. "In the last 2 weeks, each night it's a different group." So they're compiling those names with other information they get so they can find whoever's doing this. The tough part here, homeowners are responsible for the damages, which in some cases might come off easy, but clearly it doesn't always come right off. Vandalism like this is a misdemeanor, unless its more than 500 dollars, which Metcalf tells me is usually how much it costs to fix a fence or mailbox, and with 23 cases, it looks like whoever did this faces felony charges. |
