Eastern Idaho Flood Watch

Eastern Idaho Flood Watch

By Anthony Congi

The recent reports of flooding are not as severe as first thought, however, we're not out of harm's way quite yet.
With the recent drop of temperatures, the snow has not melted enough to cause concern at the Teton river in Saint Anthony so the weather bureau has cancelled the flood warning.
But in Rexburg and Madison County, the flood warning continues.
Sherrie Hebert, National Weather Services: "Even though the temperature has really cooled down, I don't believe we've even hit 50 out there. We have run off going into the snowpack and when you have rain going into the snowpack that adds more to it. However, it did bring the forecast down somewhat."
That forecast has changed to a peaking level at Henry's Fork in Rexburg to ten point two feet, which is under the moderate flood level. Major flooding would be anything over 11 feet, which hasn't occurred yet but there is potential.
Hebert: "The system should keep us cool and we'll see what happens eight, nine days from now."
Which has many local officials worried.
Roy Klingler, Madison COunty Sherriff: "It's still a concern because we do have flooding. But if we hit that major stage of flooding, we don't know exactly what's going to happen."
If you'd like to take precautions, you can get sandbags at the Transfer Station in Madison County from 7 am to 6 pm and they only cost 25 cents each.
