Graduating High School At 13

Graduating High School At 13

By Jennifer McGraw

She was reading at only four years old and by ten she was traveling the world. Now at 13 she is planning on enrolling in college for this fall semester.
She breezed through grammar school, skipped the third grade, traveled to Australia at age ten to study, now she's graduating high school this week and she's only 13.
Jennifer Owen is not your typical high schooler. She isn't old enough for a drivers license and cannot vote like most senior's in high school. Instead she has a resume of an 18 yr old and the looks of a 13 yr old..
Her parents told me she was very determined at a young age, but never thought she would finish high school this quickly.
Jill Owen, (mother): "When she told me she was going to graduate in MayI thought, how you have so many books to read and quizzes to take, some of its hard for me."
Jennifer walked me down memory lane of all the awards and achievements she has received. For her it has only been a few years, but her photo album is stuffed with accomplishments that most people don't receive in a life time.
At ten years old Jennifer was enrolled in Terreton Elementary, but she found it too easy and started taking high school course. She then went to West Jefferson high school and found she still wasn't being challenged enough.
Her parents decided to enroll her in Penn Foster, a school online, so she could study at her own pace.
When I asked Jennifer what challenges she faced as being only thirteen in high school, she said
Jennifer Owen, (student): "I'm small and they're huge."
Jennifer is very determined and already has the next four years planned out.
Jennifer Owen, (student): "I want to do ap classes at this school, then go to BYU and do online for my associates."
Her parents say funding is difficult at this age and they are looking for any possible scholarships.
Jennifer loves to act, write and cook. She is currently writing a novel and she has won several awards for her speeches. If you know of any potential scholarships for Jennifer please feel free to email me at Jennifer-m-at-kidk-dot-com so I can pass that along to her parents.
