Madison Co. Deputy Under Investigation for Grand Theft

Madison Co. Deputy Under Investigation for Grand Theft

By Nate Eaton

A Madison County sheriff's office civil deputy is under investigation for grand theft.

On May 1, the sheriff's office put its civil deputy on administrative leave because she violated department policy.

During the investigation, deputies discovered evidence of possible grand theft.

Money that had been collected from civil fees was missing.

Sheriff Roy Klingler: "It was very sophisticated in the way that it was happening and very hard to see and catch because we do have policies and procedures in place. We do have check systems and balance systems."

Sheriff Klingler would not say how much money was missing or the name of the employee involved.

A special prosecutor from Bonneville County has been appointed to handle the case. It's likely felony grand theft charges will be filed within the week.
