IFPD Wants to Unionize

IFPD Wants to Unionize

By Danielle Leigh

The Idaho Falls Police Department is showing the city council they mean business, and won't rest until it approves their request to unionize.

Back in December the city told the Fraternal Order of Police they had no intentions of negotiating, even though over 90 percent of the force supported a union.

Tonight the council was met by a full house of officers asking them to reconsider.

"We want a two way street. I think they are still trying to stay in control of that street. We're not trying to be unfair. We don't want to ask for anything unfair we just want to be part of the decision making process that controls our destiny," says FOP President Brad Landes.

The city council has agreed to discuss the request but isn't making any promises. If the IFPD does unionize it will be the first FOP in the state to do so.
