Bright Lights
By Kris Keach
And you can do it yourself.
Just pull your car or truck up within 20 to 25 yards of your garage door and find a spot about three to three and a half feet off the ground. Ervin Pannell: "As you can see the black line on the wall, they are down probably about six inches from where they should be." So what's the correct position? Ervin Pannell: "Left headlight should be at about three and a half feet straight out at about 25 yard setting. Right headlight should be at about 3 feet up and aiming to the right." And if they're too high or low just look for a small screw on the back of the headlight. Ervin Pannell: "This would be our up and down we would move it one direction to the left to raise and then we move it to the right to lower the headlamps down." Trucks that carry loads daily should have lights adjusted down. What about lifted trucks? Ervin Pannell: "They would have to be adjusted down permanently. If they're lifted six to 10 inches off the ground you would have to drop the headlights at least that much." What if you have one headlight dimmer than the other? Ervin Pannell: "If you notice and start to see one dimming or changing it'd be time to change 'em both." And for about 15 bucks a piece you can do it yourself in about five minutes. Or your mechanic can align your lights. Ervin Pannell: "Most cases if a bulb is changed with it you're probably no more than 47 dollars." Mechanics say you should have your headlights checked every time you change tires or get an alignment. |
