Money Savers: Entertainment
By Rick Montañez
It seems all we've been talking about lately is bad news with the economy. Now, we finally have some good news for you, in this week's Money Savers.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News Reporter Rick Montañez is keeping your dime in mind, he spent the last few days searching for inexpensive things you can do either on a date or with your family. East Idaho is made up of many small towns, but in the last few years its been moving at a faster pace. Why not slow it down a bit, and spend some time with the family or friends? Oh right, that costs money. Well, take note, because I have several inexpensive things you can do to have fun and stay within your budget. First, we love the movies, but those prices are sky high at some theaters. So, if you don't mind waiting a few weeks after a movie comes out, you should check out the Paramount Theater in Idaho Falls. "We're pretty family oriented," says Kent Lott, owner of the Paramount Theater. "We have more of a small town feel." "People want to go out and be entertained and some people can't afford to go to a nice restaurant." Get this...for $14 you get two adult tickets, two large drinks and one large popcorn, you can't go wrong with these prices. "We actually sell 25 cent candy. Which you can't get in any theaters that I've ever seen," says Lott. Don't wanna head out to the movies, head over to the nearest red box...its kinda like a vending machine for DVDs and they're only a buck for a one night rental. This week I took a quick trip down to the visitors center in Idaho Falls for some more ideas. This is what they gave me, more than a dozen pamphlets of inexpensive and free activities, all within a quick drive. For starters, take a trip up I-15 to Camas National Wildlife Refuge, its just west of Hamer. There's several creeks, hunting areas and hiking paths. For more outdoor fun, you can head toward Cress Creek or take a nice stroll around the greenbelt in I.F. Have you ever wanted to know more about downtown or how old the buildings are? I got a map from the visitors center that's a self guided waking tour. Looking for something more stimulating, drop by the World of the Pharaohs at the Museum of Idaho. Tickets only run 6 bucks for adults and Monday night is family night at just $15. Inside you'll see ancient artifacts from several Egyptian dynasties. Of course, there's always the Tautphus Park Zoo, tickets here are just 5 bucks for adults and its now open daily from 9-4.
