Area Business Connection Promotes Local Businesses
By Rick Montañez
Oil prices topped $115 a barrel after the dollar plunged to a new low of a $1.60 against the Euro overnight . With that, is the economy in east Idaho falling along with the dollar.
The economy in east Idaho isn't doing as bad as the rest of the country, but we're still struggling at times because of the rising cost of, well, everything. It's the 6th year the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce has held the Area Business Connection, it gives local businesses, chair or locally owned, a chance to get their name out there, and hopefully boost their business. "It allows there to, a lot of times, unless you're a store front like these places in the mall, the public doesn't really necessarily think about some of these different businesses." For example, have you visited Idaho Falls Monument, a local business that makes these engraved stones? "Rick: Whats it been like for business for you guys? Steve: Its been really good, the only thing that's really effected us is the gas, of course, gas prices." "Rick: Has it been harder for the local businesses? Rob: I think anytime, if you can compare versus a local store, a lot times the chains have more of a financial backing than smaller local stores do, I think they've still been able to withstand a lot of things that have been going on with the economy just because eastern Idaho and Idaho as a whole has remained strong." All in all, the annual event does help boost business, for at least a few. "I think its helped a lot, we've done this since the inception." To find out more about local businesses you can contact the Chamber of Commerce in Idaho Falls at 523-2255. |
