New Cubs Premiere at Bear World

New Cubs Premiere at Bear World

By Nate Eaton

One of Eastern Idaho's biggest tourist attractions is set to open April 19th.

Tens of thousands of people will visit Yellowstone Bear World this summer and see six new baby bear cubs.

The three-month-old cubs come from three mothers and are some of the over 40 bears living at Bear World.

Workers are caring for the cubs 24 hours a day seven days a week. They're bottle-fed and they grow up quickly.

Steve Killingsworth, Cares for Bears: "About ten weeks ago they were a half a pound and now most of them are around nine to ten pounds."

That means in about a year, the cubs will be a lot bigger. The older bears, and their new little friends, are getting ready to be seen by tens of thousands of people this summer.

Courtney Ferguson, Bear World: "We're just looking forward to getting everything started for 2008."

Bear World has been in Eastern Idaho for the past ten years. This year, to celebrate their tenth anniversary, they're doing specials on the tenth of every month.

Ferguson: "We'll have specials around the gift shops, around the square with the curator tours and just throughout the park."

While a lot of visitors to the park are tourists, there's things for locals to enjoy too.

Ferguson: "It's right in our backyard and it's a great time to come and see the wildlife."

Bear World is holding a job fair this Saturday for anyone who wants to work at the park this summer.
