Roberts Market Closing For Good

People in a small local town are losing their own market. Roberts Market will close its doors for the last time, this weekend. But where are the folks in Roberts and Hamer going to shop for their food now?

Looks like Rigby is the closest place, its only about 15 miles, Idaho Falls about 20. On Saturday, Roberts Market, the only market in the area will have its final sales. And some of the shoppers we talked with didn't even know the store was closing until we told them.

"I'm gonna go in there and ask them about it," says Jim Stibel.

"Its gonna be a real burdon now, for sure. We're gonna have to be more prepared and go into Idaho Falls and get our stuff," says MaryJo Holm.

"I'm just sad, I love coming and visiting with everyone at the store. Being in a small community this is where you see the people you know," says Casey Wakefield.

And the people they know, are now looking for work, Roberts Market has been a fixture in the city for decades. You might remember it as a Broulim's. And by Saturday it'll just be a memory.

"I shop in Idaho Falls but this is where I always grab my milk and the things we need," said Holm.

Now the folks in Roberts and neighboring Hamer, have to come up with a new plan for shopping.

Rick: Is this where you shop?
Casey: this is where I do the majority of my shopping, yes.
Rick: Now what?
Casey: I'm going to have to shop in Idaho Falls and I'm not happy about that.

I couldn't find out exactly why the store is closing, because the manager is off today. But the folks I talked to earlier tell me, they've heard its because the store just isn't making enough money. So if you live around here, you only have a few days left to make it out here.
