Proposed Development in Fremont County Might be Larger than St. Anthony

By Rick Montañez

A new development could bring thousands of new homes to Fremont County. The Developers are looking at building nearly 2,200 new homes, making the new Lamont Village about the size of St. Anthony, if not bigger.

"The development we envision, is more of a rural setting, you'll notice a lot of our plans and proposals are residences with a lot of open area."

That wide open area will be off state Highway 32 between Ashton and Tetonia. The development is called Lamont Village. The developers presented their plans to Fremont County Planning and Building tonight, they're looking at building around 2,200 homes on about 6,200 acres of land.

"Its quite a lengthy process, the large scale development study is designed for the engineers to tell the county what impact our development may have on public facilities, public infrastructure, obviously that takes a lot of time and study," says Charles Homer, the attorney representing the developer.

The purpose of Monday's meeting is to present the ideas, but not to argue good and bad aspects. It you look at the blue in this map, that's where the developers will build the new homes. These pictures are just some of the tentative ideas of what the neighborhoods might look like.

"We recognize there's a lot that has to be done, and we don't want to go so fast that we don't do it right," says Homer.

A major issue that came up tonight, with at least 2,200 new homes and the possibility of that jumping to more than 3,000, Lamont Village, some think, looks more like a city.

"We're not anticipating what you would consider a city where you have a large concentrated population area in a very small land mass," says Homer.

The developers also say their plan is to keep the rural feel to the area. As far as a time frame for building this proposed development, the county and developers don't really know. After the large scale development study is complete, the county can then schedule a public hearing. We'll certainly keep you posted.

Now that you know the story, we want to know what you think. It's your turn to talk. What do you think of the new development? Is it a good idea to build so many news homes in Fremont County?
