Island Park and Yellowstone Seesaw

Island Park and Yellowstone Seesaw

By Sarah Schwabe

Researchers at Idaho State University discover a geological seesaw in our own backyard.

In the last few years, the Yellowstone area in Wyoming has been rising about one to two inches per year. Meanwhile the Island Park area has been slightly sinking.

Right now the inverse relationship does not pose any impact to either area.

David Rodgers and his team use satellite images of the area to detect the elevation changes.
