An update on the snow slide out of Bear Lake County.
No one is trapped, but Highway 89 is still closed as of Thursday night.

Sheriff's deputies in Bear Lake County tell Eyewitness News they actually had multiple slides on Highway 89 between Montpelier and Geneva. That stretch of 89 goes through Montpelier Canyon toward the Wyoming stateline and is traveled a lot.

There were cars stranded between each of the slides, but not in the actual slides themselves.

Deputies called in a county front-end loader and freed all the drivers. No injuries and everyone is home safe tonight. But again, Highway 89 will remained closed overnight Thursday.

Also, as a side note, deputies tell Eyewitness News that all roads in Bear Lake County are closed Thursday night.

Idaho law allows state agencies to divert some state income tax refunds to pay legal obligations like court fees, child support, and sheriff's garnishments. Taxpayers whose refunds have been diverted have no legal recourse. What do you think of the law?

  • Times are tight. If the state needs the money, this approach is better than budget cuts, tax hikes, etc.
  • I'm entitled to the refund, and the state can just take it? Unfair and ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
