Dangerous Roads

If you stayed home today and didn't venture out on the roads be grateful.

As the snow fell cars started to leave the road due to white-out conditions on the I-15

And the ISP did their best to keep up with all the slide-offs.

Trooper Murdock: "The roads melt off and people don't realize how slick they are until they get out on 'em and then they're going too fast. Then they're off the road."

This semi was going slow and still wrecked.

Terry Conner: "There was another big truck did not appear to be moving so to avoid hitting him I took the ditch. You can see where I came in."

He said prior to this crash he'd seen others.

Terry Conner: "The ditches were growing vehicles all over the place."

Up the road at mile marker 137 there was an injury accident involving another semi.

A pickup truck with two adults, four kids and a dog hit the backend of a slow moving semi.

The driver of the pickup could not see the big rig right in front of him.
As a result they ended up in a ditch on the side of the road.
Emergency responders had one message.

Ben Poston: "Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. ISP, everybody tries to emphasize this. When you can't see more than 20 feet you shouldn't be driving 60 or 70 miles an hour."

And their 8-year-old son was taken to EIRMAC on a back board complaining of abdominal and back pain.

But this one could have been a lot worse.

Ben Poston: "They were all seat belted in or in child seats so we were spared major injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured in the wreck. For many drivers the local highways were less than hospitable.

According to ISP in the Idaho Falls and Pocatello areas there were :
no injury accidents, 6 property damage accidents
and 8 slide-offs.

And after 2:30 this afternoon things began to slow down out on area highways.

The injury accident we showed you was handled by Jefferson County authorities.
