Parents Speak On Boundary Changes for Dist. 93

On Wednesday evening, parents had a chance to speak their minds about the proposed boundary changes for District 93, some are upset their kids might have to move schools.

These changes are happening because of 2 new schools being built in the district, and some parents tell me they can see those new schools from their home, but their kids still might have to move.

"They built a school that's in shouting distance from my house," says Leigh Anderson, a concerned parent.

Anderson isn't the only concerned parent living near one of the new schools.

"I can look out my front door, I can see Calico Sky, it's a block and a half away from us," says Randall Crouch, a concerned parent.

But with the new boundaries their kids can't attend the new schools.

"With the new boundary changes they're proposing to move our children to Cloverdale which is a mile and half away," says Crouch.

The parents told the school board they need to keep in mind the emotional and social effects the change in schools might have on the kids.

"I think that they need to look at the children, they're dealing with 5-12 year old children, they need to look at the safety of the children," says Anderson.

"I really think that they need to look at the children and what's gonna happen to them," says Crouch.

The new boundaries are being developed, of course, because of the growth in the area. The district has spent valuable money on studies to find out how much and where the growth will effect their schools.

"We have used those studies in interpreting how many schools to build, each bond and they also gave us recommendations on where to build them because of the projected growth," says District 93 Superintendent Dr. Charles Shackett.

If you didn't make the meeting and still want to have some input on these proposed boundary changes, there'll be another meeting next Wednesday night at 7 o'clock at Sandcreek Elementary.
