District 93: Changing Boundaries

Growth is hitting just about every aspect of life here in Eastern Idaho, including our schools.
Students within the Bonneville Joint School District 93 may soon find themselves in a new school.
The plan is to move around certain school boundaries to accommodate the two new elementary schools opening in the fall.
And in this proposal, students from crowded schools may have to switch schools.

Change is on it's way.
Students from crowded schools like Woodland Hills Elementary may soon be moving.

Karen Judy, transportation manager: "Originally this was our plan before the board and board approved plan and asked to make two little changers, one change moving Brookside subdivision Wackerli and Clayton back in Ammon."

Some aren't looking forward to the upcoming changes.

Charles Shackett, superintendent: "Seems like most concern comes from Woodland Hills and Ammon Elementary, because those students have been moving a little bit."

But with the increase in the number of students, there really is no option.

Shackett: "We can build one huge school and no one will ever have to move, just add additions to schools, but a child gets lost when so many students."

And at this point many of the schools have long surpassed that perfect size.

Shackett: "Four to six hundred perfect and so trying to keep it around five hundred area.

So far the majority are in favor.

Shackett: "On our website we have a survey along with a map of the potential change. Have had tow hundred hits and so far with comments. Ask them do you like it or not. Seventy-six percent like it, twenty-four percent do not."

There will be a public meeting at seven tomorrow night, in the Rocky Mountain Middle School auditorium, for those of you who would like to speak your mind.
