A former Salmon resident receives his sentence today, after being convicted of illegally transporting and storing hazardous waste.

53 year old Krister Evertson will spend 21 months in prison, and has to pay about $420,000 in restitution.

Evertson failed to properly dispose of sodium metal, and the EPA was called in to clean up the mess.

"He left a huge amount, tons of dangerous material in Salmon, where it was exposed to the elements, could have been released, could have harmed someone, without letting anyone know what it was," says Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Mallard.

Evertson will most likely serve his time in Sheridan, Oregon. He has 10 days to appeal the conviction and the sentence.
