Following up on rumors of an impending retirement, Eyewitness News went right to the people who should know if the rumors are true. The same people who's job it is, to protect your interests. That's the mayor and the city council.

Today Eyewitness News contacted Council President Ida Hardcastle. When we first contacted her early this morning: She said she had no comment, and she had only heard that Eyewitness News had called the Mayor last week to confirm the rumors. After the announcement, we spoke with her again.

Today Eyewitness News contacted Council President Ida Hardcastle. When we first contacted her early this morning: She said she had no comment, and she had only heard that Eyewitness News had called the Mayor last week to confirm the rumors. After the announcement, we spoke with her again. She's emotional over the news. She called the announcement "surprising," even though she has heard rumblings the force wasn't happy with Chief Livsey. When probed why Hardcastle didn't know the announcement was coming she told us: "That's the mayor's prerogative. Although I may not agree, I will stand by my mayor." She plans of fully elaborate tomorrow at a scheduled press conference.

Eyewitness news also reached out to Tom Hally. Hally tells us: He doesn't believe the main problem is the Chief. He believes the main concern within the department is with the city, for not giving the officers the full extent of things they asked for. He tells Eyewitness News, he isn't for or against a police union, but rather wants to get more details as to how the relationship would work.

When we called Council member Joe Groberg. Groberg said: Because this issue would classify as a personnel issue, he can't comment or confirm if he's heard the rumors. He tells me he wouldn't be able to comment even if he could verify the rumors were true. Groberg adds: The overall attitude at the council is to work closely with all employees. And it's a struggle sometimes.." He goes on to tell us, " The city usually ends up being more productive if the employees feel we're on their side." He says If there a moral problem was detected, it would immediately be brought to the mayor's attention.

And speaking of the mayor, we called Mayor Fuhriman to get his reaction to the story. The mayor is out of the office today...but every time we did speak with him, all he would say is "no comment."
