We're keeping your dime in mind in this week's money savers. This week's topic, the struggling housing market.

Jason Dixon is a real estate agent in Pocatello, who knows all about cleaning up your house so you can sell it.

"You've got to clean it up, you've got to create a dream," says Jason Dixon.

The america dream, Dixon tells me that's what people look for when buying a home, they want their dream home.

"You're got to create somebody's dream in your house, whether it's a $500,000 house or a $50,000 house," says Dixon.

You can start doing this by getting things cleaned up around the house, now your house might only need some paint, you might need to throw out some old furniture. And in extreme cases you need to tear out everything in certain rooms, like the kitchen.

"You have to spend money to make money, now you have to spend wisely. You can't just go out and say a gas furnace is the best type of heat and it's the way to go," says Dixon.

Some people might not think that's the way to go, but Dixon tells me you cannot forget the housing market is a competition.

"If your neighbor down the street is selling their house its you or them," says Dixon.

Remodeling Online Magazine has a 5 keys they say you should invest in to sell you home faster.

The first one, add a wood deck, you want the buyer to be able to envision their family on a Bar-B-Q.

Second, Finish your basement, don't leave the homebuyer with work to do.

Third, like we said before, remodel the kitchen if you can.

Fourth Work on the bathroom, again, make it a dream room.

And lastely, replace old windows, preferable energy efficient windows.

These small or larger projects, depending on what you think the house needs, can help you in the long run.

And if you don't want to remodel, try, everyone's worse nightmare, cleaning.

"Things like decluttering your kitchen counter tops and cabinets. Getting those things cleared out so things look open, nice, neat, so everything flows together," says Dixon.

All these things together should help you sell your home or put more in the bank when you close the deal.
