"You never realize how wonderful family and friends are until something like this comes up," says Mary Walter.

Mary Walter is reflecting back with her friend Florence on all the help she got after being diagnosed with cancer.

"I thought I was going in for another sinus surgery. They did a cat scan and they found my skull looked like swiss cheese," says Mary.

The cancer had eaten into the bone and Mary's life had changed in an instant.

During the 20 sessions of radiation and 6 sessions of chemotherapy, Mary did her favorite hobby.. Making jewelry.

"I'm not as fond of working with thread and beads, but wire and beads are a passion," says Mary.

And Mary passed the time by doing her passion.

"I spent a lot of time in waiting rooms so I'd pack a kit and I'd sit there and work on jewelry. A lot of times it would generate interest..something to talk about," says Mary.

In addition to all the treatments, Mary also had a bone marrow transplant.

"So far, so good. Everything seems to be going pretty good," says Mary.

Some of her work has even appeared in art galleries.. But there's one place she hopes to see her work soon.

"It would be a wonderful thing if somewhere down the line, I would qualify for being in the Smithsonian. It's a dream worth shooting for," says Mary.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
