Mandy Ward joins Eyewitness News from Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana with her degree in Operational Meteorology and Climatology. Mandy is looking forward to forecasting in Southeast Idaho, which is much different from the weather patterns she is used to in Indiana.

She was born and raised in a town half the size of Idaho Falls, but Mandy is proud to say that Seymour, Indiana is the home of both singer John Mellencamp and her friend, 2009 Miss America Katie Stam.

Mandy met her husband when she was just six-years old. They were neighbors growing up and sat on the school bus together everyday. One stormy day while Mandy was in elementary school, she was on the bus with her future husband, when a tornado blew through the town and came very close to the school bus they were riding in. This started Mandy’s fascination with weather.

During college, Mandy went on several storm chasing trips where she was able to take many photographs of weather phenomena as well as much of the U.S. that she had never seen before. This started her goal to visit all 50 states. She has been to more than 30 states so far. Mandy’s second storm chasing trip, which included her husband, was when she saw her first tornado.

Because Mandy has been with her husband for almost two decades, family is very important to her. She also has a toy poodle named Rocky that is considered a big member of the family and she enjoys playing with him when she’s not working. She also enjoys taking photos and scrapbooking.
