Dave Harmon

Dave Harmon

Dave Harmon came to KIDK, as Chief Meteorologist, at the beginning of 2006. Dave brings more than a decade of forecasting experience to Eastern Idaho, and has held the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval since 1992. His fascination with the weather started when he was just a pip-squeak, learning to read. One of his first great reads was titled "The First Book of Weather." And with that, Dave was hooked for life.

Professionally, he’s learned his trade in a variety of climates, including the Desert Southwest (in Tucson), coastal California (in and around the Bay Area), both ends of Tornado Ally (in Texas and Ohio), the Colorado Rockies, and even here, in the Gem State (in Coeur d’Alene and across the state line in Spokane).

Dave has many passions. Skiing is one of them—well two really (snow and water). Some others include sky diving, training for triathlons, flying airplanes, PA Announcing and singing our national anthem at sporting events (especially gymnastics, and also volleyball, baseball, basketball and football). He’s a chess player, loves to speak French and will travel almost anywhere just to discover the delights of another culture.

Originally from Southern California, Dave played football there, from Pop Warner through college, and still found time to earn a couple of degrees; one from UCLA (B.A. - Psychology) and another from San Jose State (B.S. – Meteorology). His personal mission statement is this: "1. Keep the public safe in times of dangerous weather. 2. Keep them well-informed on a daily basis. 3. And, oh yeah, help them remember to smile as often as possible."
