Danica Lawrence joined the Channel 3 Eyewitness News team in the summer of 2009 all the way from sunny San Diego. Her passion for broadcast journalism started long before she could write. Her father has been working for KTLA in Los Angeles, California for about 25 years. She enjoyed going to work with him from the time she was very young and in doing so, she met her mentors, Hal Fishman, Marta Waller, Lynette Romero, and Leila Feinstein, each of them, respected news anchors and reporters in Los Angeles.

Danica majored in political science and journalism at San Diego State University. While attending college full-time, she took on several internships in her chosen field. She worked in newsrooms, a potential congressman's political campaign, and local entertainment. Her junior year she interned at KUSI, an independent television station in San Diego. She was quickly promoted to a paid writing position. She also interned for 944 Magazine, putting together PR events across San Diego County and writing stories about the local entertainment scene. During her junior year, she decided to study abroad in Paris, France, learning about European culture and gaining a different perspective of the world. As a senior, she interned at KFMB-CBS where she helped cover SDSU's national drug sting; and then in July 2008, KSWB-Fox 5 hired her as an associate producer and an assignment editor. She was handed many responsibilities at KSWB, including field producing for the nation's presidential election night at the San Diego media headquarters downtown and associate producing the breaking news story of the FA-18 fighter jet crash which resulted in the tragic death of an entire family generation.

Since moving to Eastern Idaho, Danica has had the opportunity to report on many critical stories including, the Kari Atkinson case, Ryan Dyer's murder, and the Troy Jackson story. Danica believes there is nothing more rewarding than delivering the news to her local viewers and reporting with integrity.

When Danica is not reporting, she loves working up a sweat running around the Idaho Falls Greenbelt, traveling, relaxing at the beach in San Diego and Los Angeles, drawing, scrap-booking, and researching her next big story. She enjoys spending time with her friends (both old and new) and family.

Danica loves covering all branches of news and can't wait to hear your story. Email Danica at dlawrence@kidk.com.

Idaho law allows state agencies to divert some state income tax refunds to pay legal obligations like court fees, child support, and sheriff's garnishments. Taxpayers whose refunds have been diverted have no legal recourse. What do you think of the law?

  • Times are tight. If the state needs the money, this approach is better than budget cuts, tax hikes, etc.
  • I'm entitled to the refund, and the state can just take it? Unfair and ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
