Mary Sturgill

Mary joined the KIDK news team in October of 2005 as a reporter. Now she anchors the 5 and 6pm newscasts. Mary is a very talented journalist winning a first place Society of Professional Journalist award for her Investigation into "Sex Offenders On Myspace.com." She's also won 1st and 3rd place from the Idaho Press Club for hard feature reporting for her stories on "The Meth Epidemic In Idaho" and "Suicide By Cop."

Originally from North Carolina, Mary moved here from Washington D.C. where she worked for Independent Television Network out of London. Mary graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English literature and taught high school English, drama and coached tennis and softball. Mary moved to Arizona to get her masters degree at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. While in graduate school, she worked at KAET, the PBS Affiliate in Tempe, AZ. After writing and defending her thesis on British coverage of the 2004 presidential election, Mary graduated with the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in December 2004.

In her spare time, Mary loves the outdoors, designing jewelry, photography, traveling and studying languages. Her favorite pass times is spending time with her dog Max and her cat Maddie. She is an avid believer in volunteerism, so she serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Idaho and Idaho Falls Youth Arts Centre.
